- You really want to add the hostname/IP-address to your nameserver's
- hosttable, which obliviates the need to add it anywhere else.
-
- If you can't do that, I'm afraid your friends might be out of luck - I
- don't believe there's a way to change the host table of most unix
- boxes without being root. I defer to the unix-weenies among us (of
- which I am not one) for the scoop on this, though.

- Subject: ? on Setting up a SLIP server
-
- Hello,
-
- Since my school does not have a SLIP server, I am in the throes of starting
- one for myself. I have a semi-dedicated phone line, modem, and ethernet
- connection.
-
- Has anyone done this, and if so what is the SLIP server software that was
- used? I am planning on using Winsock Trumpet for my client software.
-
- I have been trying to set up KA9Q but I am not entirely clear (or even
- remotely clear!) on how to do this. I can get KA9Q functioning as a regular
- server (FTP/POP/GOPHER etc,), but how do I set it up to be a SLIP server?
-
- Any and all info greatly appreciated. If this is not the appropriate group to
- post to let me know and I'll post elsewhere.
